One of the most iconic monuments of Jaipur, AMBER FORT, the original capital of Rajasthan, still stands guard up in the rugged Aravalli Hills 11km from Jaipur. Housing palaces, halls, gardens and temples it is an example of a fascinating blend of Hindu and Muslim architecture built in red sandstone and white marble.

JAL MAHAL, the water palace, is situated in the midst of the beautiful Man Sagar Lake.  lt is an exceptional structure of the Rajput culture. The palace and the lake surrounding it were renovated and enlarged in the 18th century by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amber. The wonderful five storied building built in red sandstone.

The HAWA MAHAL, or Palace of the Winds, was built in 1799 to allow the women of the royal household to observe pageants and parades passing along the streets below. This five storied structure is only one room deep!

The CITY PALACE is the residence of the present Royal family of Jaipur who have opened their gates to visitors and converted a part of their palace into a museum. Dating from the early 18th century the palace houses a textile museum, armoury and art gallery.

Just outside the City Palace is the JANTAR MANTAR, an observatory complex and a designated UNESCO world heritage site. Built in 1728 under the instructions of the astronomer King Sawai Jai Singh the site includes the largest sundial ever built.
